PrimeFish answers to the call for a new Blue Enlightment

From the 12th to the 14th of July Guðmundur Stefánsson, coordinator of the PrimeFish project, will present the PrimeFish outcomes and its work to ensure food security through the enhancement of fisheries and aquaculture competitiveness in the high-level event “A New Era of Blue Enlightenment”.  PrimeFish will participate in the parallel session “Sustainably Harvesting Our Marine Resources” held in the Altis Belém Hotel on the 12th of July at 9.30 h (Meeting Room 1) together with Mareframe, ClimeFish, DiscardLess and FAO.

Mareframe is an FP7 research project applying co-creation to the ecosystem management of fisheries. The other 3 projects, PrimeFish, ClimeFish and Discardless are Horizon2020 funded research projects aiming at strengthening the competitiveness of fisheries and aquaculture (PrimeFish), investigating the effects of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture (CimeFish) and reducing discards in European fisheries (DiscardLess). Besides, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is recognized by its constant work towards achieving food security.

The Directorate-general for Research, Science and Innovation of the European Commission hosts this event in Lisbon (Portugal) to launch the South Atlantic Flagship Initiative, an endeavour between the European Union, Brazil and South Africa to deepen scientific knowledge on marine ecosystems, and deepen cooperation on research and innovation.
